*If possible, try to visit the colleges in person. If you are able to make sure to register for an official tour on the college website. There were so many colleges high on my child's list and when we visited they dropped down on the list due to several factors. Then there were schools that she wasn't sure how she would feel about them and after the in person visit fell in love with them. Online tours are available for some colleges.
*Keep a notebook or online document with information about each college you or your child is interested in with such points as: *School name/major
*Average GPA/standardized test scores for those admitted (since you are more than likely paying for college applications you do want to be realistic when selecting schools and know where you stand).
*What you liked/didn't like when visiting the college
*Requirements (ex. some schools my child was interested in recommended four years of science while her high school only required three. You want to to fulfill the requested and required courses that are listed for the college you are interested in.
*We also included a spot here to write down the user name and password for the college portal
*Dates - we included the date we submitted the application, the test scores and the date decisions came out
*Some schools do consider demonstrated interested (ex, college visit) when making an admissions decision
*Explore the city. This could be your home for the next four years.
